Preparing Your Home Comfort System for the Fall: Tips from Ortiz Heating & Air Conditioning

Greetings, Bay Area residents!

As the golden hues of autumn begin to paint the San Francisco skyline, it's time to transition from the sunny warmth of summer to the crisp chill of the fall. Just as we swap out our summer attire for cozy sweaters, our home comfort systems too need a seasonal makeover to keep our homes snug and comfortable.

At Ortiz Heating & Air Conditioning, we've been serving the Bay Area for years, and we know just how crucial it is to have your HVAC system ready for the changing seasons. We're here to provide some encouraging and helpful tips to ensure you stay warm and comfortable throughout the fall.

  • Inspect and Clean Air Filters: After months of summer, your air filters might have accumulated dust and pollen. A clean filter not only ensures efficient airflow but also improves the air quality inside your home. Consider replacing them if they are beyond cleaning.
  • Check the Thermostat: As temperatures drop, adjust your thermostat settings to ensure energy-efficient heating. If you have a programmable thermostat, set it to lower temperatures during the hours you're away or asleep to save on energy bills.
  • Schedule a Professional HVAC Inspection: It's always a good idea to have a professional inspect your system. Our team at Ortiz Heating & Air Conditioning can identify any wear and tear, ensuring that minor issues don't escalate into major problems down the line.
  • Seal Any Gaps: Check your windows, doors, and other areas for drafts. Sealing these gaps can prevent cold air from entering your home, ensuring your HVAC system doesn't have to work overtime.
  • Clear the Outdoor Unit: Fallen leaves, twigs, and debris can accumulate around your outdoor HVAC unit. Clearing this can prevent blockages and ensure efficient operation.
  • Test the System: Before the cold sets in, give your heating system a test run. This way, if there are any issues, you have ample time to address them.
  • Consider a System Upgrade: If your HVAC system is older and showing signs of wear, consider upgrading. Modern systems are more energy-efficient and can save you money in the long run.
  • Educate & Involve the Family: Make sure every member of the family knows the basics of the HVAC system. Simple practices, like keeping vents unblocked or adjusting the thermostat appropriately, can make a big difference.

As we bid farewell to summer, let's welcome fall with open arms and warm homes. By taking the time now to prepare your home comfort system, you're not only ensuring a cozy autumn but also potentially saving on energy bills and future repair costs.

If you have any questions or need professional assistance, remember, Ortiz Heating & Air Conditioning is just a call away. We're committed to keeping the Bay Area warm and comfortable, one home at a time.

How Extreme Heat Impacts Your Brain and Mental Health

When the temperature spikes, so too do suicide rates, crime, and violence. Twitter sees hate tweets and online aggression increase during heatwaves, along with phrasing that researchers have linked to anxiety and depression. Our very language captures the confluence of heat and emotion—when we are annoyed, we get “hot under the collar”; when we are angry our “blood boils;” and when something gets to be too much, we have to “let off steam.” Spike Lee’s seminal exploration of racial tension in 1989’s Do The Right Thing unfolds during the hottest day of the year, when scorching temperatures stoke violent reactions. Doctors and scientists are now starting to unravel the complex interplay between extreme heat and poor mental health outcomes...

Poor-Quality HVAC Installs Are Costing Us. A Solution Is Within Reach.

You can read the original and full article here

California has ambitious goals for transitioning to clean, all-electric appliances to eliminate building emissions. But meeting these goals will require action on a little discussed, yet critical issue: HVAC permitting compliance.

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) is responsible for 24 percent of electricity use and 40 percent of gas use in California buildings, with households spending over $1,000 on HVAC alone each year.

Without a doubt, these systems have significant impacts on energy costs and home comfort. That is why HVAC installations are required by law to be permitted and comply with the California Building Code’s quality installation requirements.

Yet, today, most HVAC installations in California are completed without a permit. In fact, only about 10 percent of residential HVAC replacements are permitted, resulting in about 315,000 unpermitted HVAC installations every year. Widespread, unpermitted HVAC installation wastes energy, worsens indoor air quality, and hinders the transition to clean, electric appliances. The California State Legislature can and must improve HVAC permitting compliance by passing Senate Bill (SB) 795 this year.

Imager article credit at original SOURCE HERE

As the world continues to grow warmer, many are turning to the sweet, chilly relief of air conditioning in places where it was once a rarity. According to new data, San Franciscans have not seemed to embrace this trend.

The city has recently taken Seattle's place as the least air-conditioned metro area in the country, according to the 2021 American Housing Survey released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The survey states that about 45% of the 1.8 million housing units in the San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward metro area have a primary air conditioning source, compared to a national average of 92%. Only about...

A Handy HVAC Glossary to Help You Manage Your System More Effectively

The two things most people know are what HVAC stands for — heating, ventilation, and air conditioning — and what it does. In basic terms, it’s the system that keeps your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. In some cases, an HVAC system is one self-contained unit that does everything, while in other cases, it’s a combination of different units like a gas furnace, air conditioner, etc. Beyond temperature regulation, HVACs can control humidity levels and help purify the air in your home.

You'll learn about the following terms by reading the original full article here.

How To Spot A Trustworthy HVAC Service Provider

Owning a cooling and heating system requires regular maintenance to ensure efficiency and extend its useful life. To achieve this, you need professional technicians to care for your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) needs.

But how can you find trustworthy technicians who won’t con you because you don’t understand much about HVAC systems? This guide below will help you identify signs of a quality HVAC service provider.

Gets Good Reviews

The best place to scour through every review available is the internet. Go through Google, Facebook, Yelp, and other sites where frustrated and satisfied customers can post a review. Don’t rely too much on the ones posted on a service provider’s website. They likely filter out the nasty comments.

On the other hand, don’t make a decision based on just one bad review. You’re looking for a trustworthy company, not a perfect one. Remember that technicians can make mistakes.

HVAC filters demand predicted to keep rising

The driving factor for growth market is increasing demand for HVAC systems and awareness around IAQ.

A greater awareness of how HVAC can affect air quality and the spread of infection has been one of the positives to emerge from the last two years of the pandemic in the facility management industry. It is unsurprising, then, that the global market for HVAC filters is predicted to keep growing over the next few years.

A recent report from ResearchAndMarkets.com found that the HVAC filters market, which was estimated to be worth around US$3.5 billion in 2021, is projected to reach %4.5 billion by 2026, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.0 per cent.

The driving factor for the HVAC filters market is increasing demand for HVAC systems, growing awareness about indoor air quality (IAQ), and government regulations and policies for efficient filtration. Increasing investments in the construction sector and technological advancements in HVAC filters are also expected to play their part and to offer significant growth opportunities to manufacturers...
